FLEETWOOD MAC
album re-design (university project)

Fleetwood Mac - Box Open

The brief for this project was a simple re-design of a favourite album of yours. I had chosen to use Fleetwood Mac as I always felt as if the imagery used for the actual sleeve was lackluster when compared to the lyrics and messages told within the music.

I chose to use a scuffed but golden aesthetic due to the purist music, but with the inclusion of the negative and disrupted overtones. These are evident through research of the group and an understanding of the meanings for a lot of songs, being primarily break ups and falling outs between the group members.

The box itself was made with a laser cutter, that I would then die gold using metallic modelling paint and cover with a black coat of matt spray paint. This would allow me to sand the top layer of paint off in places to expose the gold underneath.

I had to scan sections of this painted box to use as texture on the poster and CD labels as I was unable to paint these and use similar effects. The font used was Arete Mono, one that I would use for a few projects throughout university due to it's distinguishable letter forms and it's unfortunately minimal usage in design.

The tutor for this project was Vaughan Oliver, who I would later take on professional employment with.
